“ ‘And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! ‘Maybe Christmas,’ he thought, ‘doesn’t come from a store. ‘Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more!’”
(How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss)
According to recent national surveys, 70-80% of Americans would welcome less emphasis on spending, gift-giving, decorating and all the materialism of the Christmas season.
As Christians, concerned about the meaning of the Christmas holydays, aware of relationships with each other and with our planet, here are some suggestions for simplifying the season which will deepen the true celebration. A discussion and planning of these can happen within families, faith formation sessions, youth ministry, and adult formation opportunities at the parish and in online settings.
